FAKE – Ghana Police Service Disowns Viral Flyer on AirPods Use While Driving

The Ghana Police Service has disowned a flyer circulating on social media claiming that the use of AirPods, earphones and other audio devices while driving or riding is prohibited under Ghanaian law.

In a statement, the Service urged the public to disregard the flyer, describing it as a false publication that was neither issued nor authorised by the Ghana Police Service.

According to the Police, its Cybercrime Unit is working to trace those behind the publication.

The Service, however, cautioned motorists, motorcyclists and other road users against engaging in activities or using devices that could distract them or compromise their attention, hearing, vehicle control or awareness of surrounding traffic.

It warned that such distractions could pose a serious risk to road safety and urged motorists and riders to exercise maximum care while using the roads.

The Police further encouraged all motorists, motorcyclists and other road users to familiarise themselves with and comply fully with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2519), as well as other applicable road traffic laws.

It said compliance with the regulations was essential to reducing road crashes and protecting lives.

The Ghana Police Service also urged the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate information and to be wary of false notices circulating on social media.

The clarification follows the widespread circulation of the purported flyer, which had presented itself as an official public safety announcement from the Service.
